Car inspection: which parts should I take the most care of?

Car inspection

Safe driving is not just about paying attention to signs and speed limits. Having your car serviced regularly is also a way to take care of your life on the road. There are parts that require more attention, as they are essential for the vehicle to function and should be included in the car’s inspection.

9 Most Important Items for a Complete Car Inspection
During a car inspection, it is best to check and adjust all items properly. Some of them can be prioritized, since they significantly affect the use and performance of the car.

Check out what they are below:

1. Engine
Having problems with your car’s engine in the middle of traffic can cause serious headaches. In addition, it is one of the most expensive items in your car. If possible, keep your engine regularly serviced. To do this, check for fluid leaks, such as coolant and engine oil.

2. Brakes Brakes
are essential to avoid accidents, collisions and other unwanted situations. It is essential to keep them preserved and in perfect working order.
Pay attention to the brake fluid, the rear brake light, the brake disc, the pads and the handbrake.

3. Transmission
When inspecting your car, take care of all the parts that make up the transmission system: clutch, gearbox, differential and half-shaft. When you have a routine checkup, ask the professional to also check these parts of the vehicle — and don’t forget the oil, of course!

4. Electrical system
The car’s electrical system needs to be up to date with preventive maintenance. This is because breakdowns are common and failure to check them can make these problems worse. Ideally, the battery and alternator should be checked every 6 months. If possible, pay attention to all electrical components.

5. Tires
The useful life of the tire is one of the most important points to avoid problems when driving. When they are bald, have bumps or are punctured, they should be changed immediately, because the stability of the car depends on it.

6. Radiator
The water in the radiator must operate in the correct proportion in relation to the additive — this measurement is generally specified by the vehicle manufacturer. In fact, not only the radiator, but also the cooling system as a whole should be closely monitored by a professional. In short, this is the part of the car that indicates the engine’s operating temperature. If it operates above or below the indicated temperature, performance tends to be compromised.

7. Timing belt
Many people forget about the timing belt, but it should also be replaced periodically. This interval varies depending on the model. To get rid of any doubts on the subject, check the owner’s manual. It is recommended to replace the belt due to wear on the auxiliary bearings and tensioners. It may also be worth replacing the other parts of the timing assembly. This prevents defects in the old assembly from affecting the functioning of a new part.

8. Spark plugs
The useful life of a spark plug can vary greatly. Each manufacturer specifies in the owner’s manual the date on which it should be changed. In general, it can be said that this material should be inspected every 10 thousand kilometers driven and/or after 1 year. It is worth remembering that there are different types of spark plugs being sold.

9. Filters
There are 4 types of filters that can be changed once a year, on average. They are:

• air conditioning filter;
• oil filter;
• air filters;
• fuel filter.

The so-called washable filters, widely sold in Brazil, may have more attractive prices, but they end up leaving something to be desired when it comes to efficiency. Because of this, choose other models.
Don’t forget about other essential elements of the car that must be maintained, such as headlights, mirrors, windshield wipers, hoses, direct injection, and so on. The cleanliness of the injector nozzles also needs to be checked during the car’s inspection. With this care, your driving will be much safer.
If you have any other questions, consult the vehicle’s manual. Preventative car maintenance is an investment in safety that helps you save money in the future and keeps your car’s value for longer. Therefore, plan to have a complete car inspection whenever necessary.
